I made good money selling firewood from lightning struck trees before we moved out West. All of my customers reckoned they had never had wood that burned so good. I reckon the sap got cooked in and added to the available energy in the wood. I could also sell the wood six months after the tree got nailed rather than waiting a couple of years for it to season. Burned the guts out of a cast-iron pot belly stove burning the same shit. Mostly stringy and grey box.

I have had one tree’s firewood that wouldn’t burn properly, kept going out and a log would last 3-4 loads of other timber into the Coonarah.
It burnt like it was green, but was off a fallen tree 5-6 years dead.
