What I did in guns this week.

Got my two new (to me) shotguns and gave them a clean up.

Both single shots, the first is a Soviet Baikal and the other is a Webley and Scott. Had today off work due to an appointment in Melbourne so stayed in Ballarat last night and took both to the state forest this morning to check they were all good. Both worked well.

Just forgot to get photos :frowning:

My new dies arrived via the courier today.
Good old eBay.
Got it from the guys in the background. Good price, had it in stock and they arrived in 4 days from Canberra including a weekend. Wrapped well, I would recommend.
Got some fancy paper puncher projies for the 6.5 so it’s time to work up a load for the green machine.
.357 mag for the Winchester. Not even going to bother with .38 special. Doesn’t feed very nicely and the recoil and cost difference is negligible when reloading.

What winchester?

Good choice. 38spc out of a rifle feels very weird. I get western action shooters, for recoil management, but for shooting for the joy, it just doesn’t do it. I hot load my 357s for that exact reason.

Yeah Im thinking its only the toggle actions that appreciate the 38special.

I do shoot a lot of 38spc. But not from a rifle.

A (Miroku) Winchester 92 .
Sweet shooter, handles and cycles effortlessly.
Flings brass over the horizon if you work the action about the only complaint.

Causes a philosophical dilemma when shooting it. Do I rip in and work that sucker , knowing full well my brass will be scattered over 10-20ft away. Or baby it and catch my brass or dribble it out on deck.

The OCD of one or two missing cases is infuriating.

@Supaduke let it rip! And collect your brass. Also, sign up to Once Fired Brass notifications, for when they get 357 brass in. It goes really quick. Like, REALLY quick! Worth it however.

Got behind a pistol here in WA and was featured in a small promo video for an indoor range just out of perth

Heres a bit of a screen grab, brand new facilities going to try and get my pistol license just for a change

Nothing much out of the ordinary, but my wife beat me, again.

Did quite a bit actually. Went shooting, that’s always good and shot the last of my ammo. So yeah, some physical activity ahead, this week.

Loaded for Nagant, that’ll be its own post, but I got it going at 650fps roughly. Need to get it to just over 900.

Tested my 357 loads, avg over 1200fps with 158gr pill from 6" barrel, which is awesome, exactly the velocity I was after to go after 1930 bootleggers taking cover behind a car :stuck_out_tongue: rofl.

Yeah, that’s about it, other than learning that a Nagant cartridge is a massive PITA to reload, but I got there in the end.

Oh, here’s another thing… Today I warn out my 38 bore snake…

G’day Bigpete mate are those starlings as big a problem where you are as they are everywhere else? when my son was in hospital in Cairns, there were that many around the hospital and water front that when they took flight from a tree it was like the sun went out, I mean like there were tens of thousands and I couldn’t believe the council hadn’t done anything about them, they would actually fly in and take stuff off people sitting in the café of the hospital , I also witnessed them hunt and kill other small birds,’’ just wondering mate’’

Yeah they are

Nothing i did nothing.

No pew pew. I have cleaned them so much i think i have worn out the barrels…
