I had a good weekend, caught up with JS & AusTac for some plinking on Saturday and hung out with my daughter on Sunday.
Wed is my usual shooting day, so did that. Of course. Hung out with @bentaz and @AusTac (@AusTac 1 : my shotgun 0, back for a warranty claim it goes). Hit some gongs and destroyed some tinned tomatoe cans. Sighted in a couple of 22s and that’s about it. Sunday - kiddlets and back to work today.
Was the damaged shotgun your new straight pull? What happened to it?
What he said lol. Loading gate won’t open to load… It’s under warranty, so all good. @AusTac is not allowed near guns that are not under warranty lol
Maybe he should be given every new gun, if he can’t fuck 'em then they’re good to go

Oh, it’s back with the distributors, dropped it off on Saturday… It’s a mechanical device, it happens… It is a dedicated slug slinger, so I expect it to be abused.
Undeniably cool shotty though.
A big week for me after a long while away from shooting due to life getting in the way.
Bought a 1916 SMLE for $600 which I was thrilled with. Will pay for that this week and then just waiting on the PTA. May have a Carcano lined up too. Waiting to hear back.
Had a trip planned to Eagle Park today when last night my wife suddenly asked if she could come and shoot with me. My wife is not into guns and was very hesitant when I got into them so I nearly fell over in shock.
Went to Eagle Park this morning and we took turns on the 22, first at 25 meters and then 50. Two shots in and she turns to me with “Hey, this is fun!”. Progress!
After she retreated to the cafe I brought out the Type 53. I’ve never shot anything over 6.5 so 7.62 coming out of a short, light carbine was pretty full on. It still needs more cleaning, the bolt was sticking badly after each shot and had to smacked open. Apparently a 20 gauge brush in the action works well. Will investigate further.
Also managed to blow apart a target frame!
Were the hard to get out rounds reloaded ones? I have had this problem happy to give you some info on it if there were reloaded.
I went old school this morning and tried out a bit of archery.
Took the 22 out for a bit on Friday, but it was as windy as all hell and I soon gave up on hitting a rabbit.
That’s all for me this week as I was away for the first half and sick for the second half of the week.
Nope, PPU factory rounds. When the bolt actually got open they ejected perfectly, it was just the bolt which was sticking I think. When I got it home I had a bit of a play trying to get it clean in the action and got some old dried cosmoline out so that was good.
2 things…
#1
Clean the chamber, really, really, really well.
#2
Take apart your bolt, remove firing pin. Clamp the pin in drill and do a few passes over it while spinning with very fine sandpaper. Then repeat with 000 steel wool to polish it. It will make a HUGE difference. Don’t go crazy on it and take material off, just polish it very well. On the other hand, it is generally sticky. But I know the feeling of smacking the bolt - polishing will make a lot of difference.
This week, finished by bullet feeder.
Shot a little bit.
The end. Pretty uneventful, had a hard week.
Thanks for the advice. Was going to give it a proper clean when I can but I’ll polish the bolt too.
Does not help that mine has a turned down bolt handle so slapping it open was even more difficult.
Happens… Let’s see, I’ve kicked a shotgun bolt open. I have seen a member on the forum slam 50BMG (yeah we all know who) it with a wooden plank… You are not special lol.
Took the Gew88 and Kar88 to Eagle Park for comps, old beggars shot quite well. the rifles shot OK too! Went up to pistols with new loads for the Pythons and opened fire just as the skies did, great fun. Still waiting on permits for stuff bought at the auction, bloody LRD, as much use as tits on a bull. Cheers
