One of the things that I found caused this was brass that had been used in another gun even though it was resized. It has a memory. The other thing but the same is that the cases may need to have the shoulder bumped back. Like I said if the have been over annealed this could still present as the same problem or if fired several times in another gun.
#1 This sounds like the solution to a problem I encountered with 1873: It had been used with 38 Special loads its whole life until I bought it and I was having trouble feeding and ejecting 357s. The chamber required a serious scrubbing at the area forward of where the 38 Special case mouths seated.
I wonder if that 22LR had been eating shorter 22 cal rimfire cartridges like CB or Short?
Not as much shooting this week… doesn’t mean no shooting Just not as much. Wasn’t planning to go, since I had a hectic week with work and still managing various deliverables until next week… Anyhow… I was convinced by a new recruit to go, since he had to drop his paperwork off at the club. So I went. Weekly rhythm must be maintained and all that, on condition that I am left alone with my 22 or someone else supplies the ammo. So a box of 45ACP materialised. Yeah. Followed by cool down exercises with 22 LOL - of course. So that’s shooting done. Makes me think I want another 22, but that would make 2 x 22s and that’s almost a 44, so I am considering that instead.
All outstanding longarms delivered to the shop, I just need to pick them up now, time during business hours is still tight. I am also told that my shotgun is ready for pick up after repair (thanks @AusTac). Hoping next week I will get it all picked up.
Last night I thought, I’ll setup my bullet feeder finally for a proper reloading session run. And get the small primer pocket 45 brass out of the way, which motivated me to setup 45 toolhead. So I did that… Why small primer pocket specifically? Well, because majority of 45auto comes with large primer pocket and it’s a little unhealthy trying to ram a large primer in a small pocket (ha-ha). I buy once fired brass by the killo, so I had to fish them out from everywhere, after I learnt (thanks @1Fatman) that they come in 2 sizes. ended up with a few… Didn’t want to just chuck them, loaded and going to unload them at the range next week maybe, see how they go, they won’t be coming home.
Now that I got the bullet feeder running and bunch of flipper plates for various sized projectiles, I decided to get some of the 38 brass out of the way. My OCD gets the better of me when I see nickel brass in a tub with brass-brass. This motivated me to setup my 38 toolhead… Fished them out and loaded them too. I also wanted to see how the feeder would go with RNFP projectiles, which are a prick to flip, since they look the same up and down more or less. It makes them stable, when they are tapped to drop if they are upside down (blah blah blah - insert technical details on how bullet feeder works-) Tuned the flipper - winning!
Did I mention I bought a case feeder (and both plates)? Yes, I did that too and oh my, for my volume it’s awesome.
On the agenda for next week: I’d like to load 357 to be used in everything I have. Currently I have them over max to run from carbine. And A tub full of that goodness. Methinks I will take the said tub down to the club and blast some metal poppers with them, to free up brass for new load recipe
That’s about it.
Carcano Cavalry carbine was delivered to my LGS during the week (via Aus Post) but the SMLE (with Alliance) didn’t turn up and couldn’t be tracked. Brilliant. Followed that up and it magically appeared on tracking the next day but now with an estimated delivery date 4 days later than originally expected. So about a total of 10 days to travel from Bairnsdale to Kyabram. Great.
Went to Ballarat yesterday to see my parents and drop off the Carcano. The 303 and Turk Mauser will have to stay at the gun shop until a later trip in a few weeks. Got here early enough that I could make it to Eagle Park by mid day.
Shot my 22 with open sights at 25 meters and shot about two inches high. Tried again and didn’t do too bad but still can’t really figure out why I need to hold under the target so much. Moved the target out to 50 meters and it fell over on my fourth shot…
Switched to the Swede Mauser and put all shots onto the A4 piece of paper at 50 meters which I was happy with. Progress is progress.
Next purchases will be a spotting scope and a proper front rest. No more guns for a while. Carcano and Turk Mauser aren’t going to be touched until we’re into our new house and I have a workshop put in. Both need a lot of cleaning and checking.
I’m gunna clean my .303 today, yesterday I fired 0ne round out of .22 and 3 out of the 303.
Been building a new workshop to free up space in the reloading room, I want to get the little hobby lathe, the drill press and all the other superfluous crisp out of there.
Yeah, about that…
I’ve been in Tasmania asking for a new .303 between adventures, thats as much as i’ve done in terms of firearms today
Yeah, thinking of sending out a search party.
I weight sorted 1500 bullets, purchased a A22 Pro Varmint thanks Bentaz for the heads up on Sunbury Firearms Sale picked it up for $645 after the NIOA $200 cash back offer, and did the normal Saturday Shoot.
NT police, like GCA with Adler, best gun advertising, no money can buy.
Absolutely a panic buy, it may turn out bad but I am willing to take that risk. I am hopeing that if the other States do follow and ban it they will not have compulsory hand ins or buy backs but rather Grandfather clauses. The fact that nearly all shops put them on special and the cash back offers does make me think that something may happen and the shops want to clear stock.
Same thinking with me. Mines on lay-buy though. Might pay it in full earlier than planned.
…nah
It’s them trying to boos sales after heavy trigger complaints and re-release. Don’t know. Doubt it’s anything beyond that.
Im soooo, glad Im not the only one. Lol
I went to Lake Bennett where it was 39 in the shade. Busted clays from the balcony of a house being built, and set up some steel for rimfire practice downstairs. Put some chipotle chicken wings in the kamado style smoker thingy and few xxxx bitters in the esky and it was a nice day. Speshly for me, I didn’t have to drive!
I lovr this stuff. $1.60. Stop at woolies and grab a pack of wings and this dry marinade. Use the shopping bag to dump the wings into, sprinkle the whole pack of spices in, shake and leave it in the esky for an hour. Dump it on to the bbq and you’ve prepped without a single thing to wash except your hands.
This week I have butchered some meat from last week. bought a second hand leupold vx1 3-9x40 to put on the (lately not so) trusty ol’ free ohh.
Shot me a brace of bunnys, a hare and a fox cub oh and a couple of egg thieves too.
Put my name on the wait list for a berika black ops at my lgs and almost bought a sported No.5 in ohh free - twenyfive, but decided it was just a bit too butchered, even for me.
And made a small batch of jerky!
That’s probably the most I’ve had to report in ages.
