Say hello and introduce yourself :)

Gday @traction

Hi all, great site you have.
I live on 20 Acres 45 minutes from Darwin. Love hunting, sports shooting and fishing. I shoot .22 .38 at a local pistol club. Have a savage A22RSS, BLR, 3030 and a side by side shot gun. Enjoy shooting goose, pigs and buffalo. As well as target shooting at the back of my block.

Hey Traction Welcome aboard mate

Gā€™day all.

Iā€™m Simon. Iā€™m a history teacher in northern Victoria. Iā€™ve always been into military history and pursued that at uni before becoming a teacher.
I have wanted guns for a long time and have kept delaying it, mainly due to renting and not being able to have a safe. In the end I said screw it and convinced my dad to put a safe in their garage in Ballarat which isnā€™t super convenient but better than nothing.
Since getting my licence a few weeks ago Iā€™ve got myself a Krico 311 in 22lr and a Swedish Mauser.
Iā€™ve only been shooting once, at SSAA Eagle Park, which was great but Iā€™m not able to go that often unfortunately.
Iā€™m all about the milsurps and target shooting, no interest in hunting at this stage.
Probably looking at trying to get to the next Australian Arms Auction and see if I canā€™t get a Lee Enfield.

Gday and welcome mate!
Nothing wrong with punching paper with milsurps.

Gā€™day Nomis welcome to the forum iā€™m pretty new as well and found it quiet welcoming on here good bunch of blokes and a good sense of humor goes well on here there is plenty of knowledge and support on here as well so all you have to do is ask the questions and someone will have the answers Welcome mate

Cheers lads.

If anyone has any milsurp buying tips, let me know. Prices seem to be all over the shop. Had convinced myself that a Mosin from Claremont Firearms in WA was the next purchase until they quoted me $180 postage. Still, better than the $900 Iā€™ve seen them for at local gun showsā€¦

Owens guns in qld have a few mod53ā€™s for pretty cheap.

Welcome, @Nomis - make yourself at home and ask heaps of questions.

You are a good person for pointing this out. Been researching for weeks and didnā€™t see them at all. Might give them a call tomorrow and have a chat!

No worries mate, Iā€™ve been uming n ahing about a mosin for a while now too.

@Nomis could it be that you are asking them to ship to rural area? Maybe see if shipping is cheaper to Melbourne and then just drive down and pick it up here? $180 is however VERY expensive, it should be no more than $70 interstate.

As for Clearmont, they are a bit slow, but thatā€™s to be expected form WA. They are all a little slow there (waits for revange attacks), but I have purchased a couple of Mosins from them and they are pretty good. Also if you call and ask to have one hand picked - they are more than happy to do that for you. Both of mine were in a pretty good condition for what they were (1943 and 1944 models). 1944 I expected to be good, but thatā€™s a different story, 1943 I did not and they did pretty well to sift one out for me. Good guys (when not slow).

I might give them another call. We didnā€™t even get to discussing where it was going, I got halfway through my sentence saying ā€œMosinā€ and ā€œpostageā€ and ā€œVictoriaā€ and he jumped in and said ā€œYeah, $180 mateā€. Seemed like he really couldnā€™t have cared less to be honest because Iā€™d heard good things about them.

Why donā€™t you start a new thread, Mosin or whatever and I am sure everyone will contribute (well, @no1mk3 @Supaduke and I probably lol) and get you to a point where you know what to look for - then just look for one on used guns, ozgunsales, etc. $180 shipping shouldnā€™t be tolerated. Although, I donā€™t remember, maybe thatā€™s what I paid a while back, but I donā€™t think I have. They are certainly around.

Thanks, will do.
Sorry for hijacking the thread!

It getā€™s hijacked all the time LOL - all good.

Welcome aboard @Nomis I hope you find the website really friendly and helpful. There are some full on very knowledgeable people here in particular military history. There are also some Military Rifle target shooting clubs here in Victoria that I know of (as I guess there are in other states as well). More importantly you shouldnā€™t get all the miss information like you can get in other parts on the Net here.

Welcome to the forum @Nomis you will not find a more friendlier place to beā€¦

@6V53T Welcome to the forum. Tell us a bit about yourselfā€¦

Hi All, after quite a long time away from shooting I am slowly getting back into it, I am mainly a hunter and used to shoot a lot of clay targets. Computers are not my strong point but I will join in when I can.
