Come to think of it i was youngbloke a long time ago. Lol
Hi All, long time lurker first time poster, thought I had better get off my backside and join in the conversation.
Welcome, @Cavallino! Hope you are finding everything here interesting and useful and will contribute something new too, that we can learn from.
Tell us a bit about yourself?
Welcome mate.
Welcome aboard @Cavallino, please join in and post. Some details about yourself and what you shoot/guns etc. There are a couple of games to join in on and some very knowledgeable people who are happy to help out.
Yeah welcome mate as was said a lot of knowledgeable people here also good reading
Thanks Guys, been shooting for the past 24 years starting when I was 16. I own both rifles and pistols but mainly only have time to shoot pistols nowadays. Main matches are ICORE and Service match, but in the past have shot IPSC, Action Match and Steel Challenge. Iām guilty of being a prolific reloader, especially the oddball calibers and have a keen interest in wildcats.
Welcome @Cavallino it seems that all pistol shooters have to be prolific re loaders. Not a pistol shooter myself but have quite a few people around me that are and they just seem to chew through rounds. Being the skeptical guy that I am I kinda think that the gun ranges / ammo sellers have designed the formats to use lots of consumables.
Speaking of prolific reloading, check out the āreloading pornā thread
Will do.
Looks like we have a new member so welcome aboard Robbie
Hi Guys, Thanks for the welcome.I was just browsing and came upon the site and thought you guys seem like a friendly bunch, why not?
Moved over to SA about 4 years ago from UK and loving it. Iāve been shooting and hunting for 50+ years and still keen, mainly deer hunting now. Slowing down a bit but still out there doing it. Enjoy eating venison and reloading, main rifle a 308, also have 22 250, .22lr and 12 bore.
@robbie by 12 bore do you mean a rifled bore gun or just a smoothie?
Iād love a true bore gun, I have a savage 212 but itās a poor substitute for a nice British job.
Shotgun, not rifled. I agree a good British gun is generally well balanced, weight between the hands and a joy to handle.
Many years ago there used to be quite a few old English side by sides rifled/semi rifled available at reasonable prices as relics of Empire, alas no more. I had the hots for a rifled 12 bore when their ammunition was legal for hunting deer and for close range rabbits in heavy cover as the rifling spins the wad/shotcup in the barrel and gives a very open pattern so the rabbits are not smashed and can be eaten.
In the UK there is strict legislation as to what ammunition you can use for deer and except in very restricted circumstances lead does not qualify. Also you need a shotgun certificate for shotguns (smooth bore) but a firearm certificate for rifled weapons. One of the differences is that once you have a shotgun certificate you can buy (so long as it is legal) whatever shotguns you need but you have to individually justify every firearm and a rifled 12 bore is defined as a firearm as indeed is solid ammunition for a shotgun.
I have read a couple of reviews on the Savage 212, sounds good as does the 220. How does it work for you and what conditions do you use it under? At the moment it is an unlikely option for me as due to medical problems I am restricted by recoil and I use a muzzle brake on the 308 and a recoil reducing stock, one of the 12 boreās is heavy and also has a recoil reducing stock, the other I have just bought is a field grade Chas Osbourne side by side hammer gun which I intend to try out with light loads max prob 24-28 grams.
To be honest mate I have only shot the 212 a couple of times, I have a problem when it comes to shotguns as I have one or two or 40 to choose from, but Iād like to shoot a deer with it or maybe even goats, although I think I wanna take my musket on the next goat trip.
I had a rifled 12 bore barrel blank that I was going to (for a bloody long time) get fitted to my greener gp, but after years of procrastination I sold the barrel again.
One day
Welcome aboard Robbie, great to have another South Aussie on here
