From what I gather, a lot of their stuff is found and bought in Europe for collectors here who have already agreed to a price. They then use these prices to justify their other high prices.
All the places that “specialise” in milsurps, such as Rebel Gun Works, Military Lane and Sunshine Coast charge a massive premium. I always thought that Clairmont was sort of OK but the shipping from WA killed that and they seem to be out of the game now. Checked their site the other day, pretty well nothing military left.
Barry & Son (https://barryson-firearms.com.au/) have a good range of collectibles but they suffer from the same problem as Claremont - they’re over in WA, so the shipping costs add a lot to the price.
Military lane and Rebel are pricey…and the Carcano i bought from Military Lane had a rooted barrel…and I was told it was good! Be careful there guys! That’s how you came to get all my Carcano loading gear @Nomis
My theory is that’s why there’s more military surplus stuff in WA than anywhere else - too expensive to ship it over East and not enough of a market locally because the laws are bullshit.
A while back someone in Perth was selling off a heap of old .22s and had something I was after, but they said they didn’t want to part the collection out and I was thinking “Well good luck finding anyone in WA to buy the whole thing”.
