Yeah, I’ve got the shits with the dog but the missus and kids reckon it’s piss funny!
Why would the missus and the kids lick the cans?
I saw your kids do exactly that!
Yeah, they do that between songs, you fart head!
Back on guns.
Travelled to Cooyal for our, ( Buffalo Rifle Assn ), “Quigley” shoot. Same targets and distances as the big shoot in the U.S. 350 yard off-hand, then various shapes and sizes at 405, 417, 540, 600 and 805 yards.
Like an idiot, I decided to change my load just before a big shoot. This gave me a leading problem that I don’t usually get and diminished accuracy. ( The load I normally use has been winning for me for the last five years, so I changed it, yeah, WTF! )
Anyway, weather was cold at night with a good frost on Saturday morning, turning into nice clear day with temp in mid 20’s. Wind behaved itself with just a gentle breeze, ( unusual at this range ), a switching mirage needed keeping an eye on.
Off-hand was crap, then I dropped shots at 417 and 540, shot a possible at 600. Dinner at the pub Saturday night, a few beers and watched a couple of movies back at the clubhouse.
Sunday started with another frost and a quiet moment of reflection and remembrance for Anzac day.
We shot the 405 yard target then moved back for the 805 yard buffalo. Sunday mid-morning is when it decided it was time to blow like a bitch, mid-way through my relay. Chasing shots in a gusting wind when you aren’t allowed any sighters is a challenge. I had my first five shots on target before the wind came up. I managed to get my number 6 on but no report from the spotters as to where it hit. I wound a couple of minutes of right on, as the wind had now increased from the right, shot went off target to the left, so did the next 4 shooters. Wound another 3 minutes on, that shot missed the left hand edge by a p**fteenth. Game over.
I had four loaded rounds left so decided to empty them, I wound another 3 minutes into the wind and put all four shots onto the target, they didn’t count for shit but I did feel better.
Finished second by a couple of shots, won a bottle of red wine, had a great weekend shooting with a bunch of mates, isn’t that what it’s about?
Nice and good wind reading with the minimal feedback you have as to strength and effect of it. The mirage I have found is often a better indicator in the lighter conditions and I have the advantage of a scope to see it.
I went to the MRC Anzac Day shoot at Eagle Park. Had a small remembrance ceromony then the comp. Good turn out, weather was pretty good although a bit overcast. Two classes, .303 Enfields and Everything else (open). I managed to snag the open. Really need to dial in my smelly and take it next year. Overall great day, some of the dealers also showed off some pretty cool toys , you’ll have to use your imagination as to what sort of toys.
Well done, nice medal design.
Sounds a bit like my fullbore shooting days…winding 3 points on before even firing a sighter…teaches you a lot!
I shot ISSF 22 pistol for the first time on Sunday. It’s like Air Pistol, but outside so it’s noisy as heck and you can’t just zone out like you can with the indoor Air Pistol. That made it quite tricky
Took the two eldest kids out yesterday to a mates block for some clays and 22’s. Up nice and early, maccas for brekky while it was still dark and then the sun would come up as we reached our destination in the middle of nowhere. The boy is 10yo and on the 12g like a champ “Is this what I’ve been missing out all these times?”
Yes son, this is what you’ve been missing out on. Now, pick up all our empties and load the clays into thrower, good boy. [can opening noises]
I’ve been going to the NRA beginner sessions at my local club. Having to shoot weak-handed/reversed grip/one-handed, from different distances, prone/behind barrier etc is pretty interesting.
Been trying out different guns; Ruger Mk III, S&W 22A and M&P and an Arsenal AF1. The 22A felt and shot the best, then maybe the M&P. Hoping to try out a Beretta 87 and a S&W 617.
Gave my Savage A22 it’s first decent cleaning yesterday and am waiting for the range to open so I can have some nice relaxing me time.
I had a brilliant Sunday in guns. Got some coaching in 22lr and 9mm handguns and shot so many different guns I’m having trouble remembering them all.
Sig p226, Sig p320, grand power x-calibur, cz shadow 1, shadow 2, s&W 22, a Turkish 1911, I think that’s all.
The Grand Power was really nice. The S&W 22A or victory was just great but red dots are cheating. I found I don’t like triggers that are too light, I like some travel and the option to ease off the trigger halfway through if I decide to.
And the 1911 felt as good as I had hoped it would. The narrower but squarer grip felt very comfy.
Just smacked this bugger from 78m while he was nosing around a newborn lamb. Old anschutz 22 with an old Japanese made nikko stirling 4x40 scope shooting old bushman ammo. Classy
I would have missed and dropped the lamb…
Which is way more delicious anyway.
When I say nosing around,he was a good couple of feet away…
I shot a 725 on the Service 900 match with four away still Using old mates tricked up Model 67. What a lovely gun, fitted with a Hi-Viz style front sight and blued. Classy as. Still not fitting my hand too well, no where to put my thumbs, trigger too far back. Then I tried another blokes 686 fitted with KN ‘closed back’ grip. HOLEE HECK where have you been all my life? Perfect length of pull! Perfect place for me thumbs, felt like I was gripping my own…err…yeah. +$300 but Im going to get a set for sure. I was blown away by how good it felt. I can’t wait to get my own gun! I can submit a purchase permit in less than two weeks!
Another good Sunday, mostly working on 9mm accuracy. I borrowed an Arsenal AF1, loaded it up, went to take a sight picture and only then realised the rear sight was missing.
Luckily I was able to borrow a Sig P320 and work out a few issues re: trigger pull and grip that were causing me to shoot low and left. Progress!
After spending most of the day concentrating on accuracy, we finished off with a speed shootout to see who could empty a 10-round .22 magazine the quickest. I got 1.7s but I reckon I could go quicker if I spent a bit more time with the gun. Lots of fun as always.
Good to see more people enjoying handguns!! @MangoBombs this chart may help you work things out a little.
But here’s a real one, it may help you to diagnose what your doing.
