What I did in guns this week.

I attended Field and Game at Colac Gun Club. 1st time here and enjoyed it albeit shot like a spastic. Shot 1st 1/2 with my Nikko 28" Field Gun and borrowed mate’s Browning for the second sesh after lunch which was a 30" Sporter. I think I went better with the short barrels…lol. Good fun and deft better than shooting down the line. I’ve signed up as a member of F&G so now now hunting for a decent Sporter… Browning B725 on the short list.

Im not a great shot with the shotgun. Target Rifle skills and shotgun skills kind of work against each other to some extent you need a few sessions with one and not the other and then it all kicks in. So when I have the casual go I use up heap of shells and the money is like a huge hole in the bucket. Nearly as bad as pistol its like they make the comps suited to use a certain $ amount of ammo rather than 10 shots across the board in all shooting sports.

Went to auction, bought more pistols and a nice CH Crawford hammer gun, as well as a Mossberg 16g bolt action shotgun, not planned that one, but too cheap to ignore! Spent too much considering the big auction in a few weeks has oodles of stuff I desperately want, anyone want to sponsor? Cheers.

How was the auction? Many there? How were the prices compared to the catalogue?

G’day Nomis,
Not a large crowd but I sort of expected that being David’s 1st attempt. Still well enough, with the “usual suspects” from the trade, plus several fellow collectors and friends of the late Dennis Trickey with many of his items for sale. Most of the antique pistols and sporting arms sold close to the estimates, with a few exceptions but the Winchesters generally made well over estimate as did a lot of the military items but again many of us thought that would happen. A fair bit passed in with bids close but not quite so I dare say there would be a bit of post auction haggling to see them sold later. All in all a good day, and hopefully it will grow with more exposure to the market. A few bargains were had, I didn’t bid on a couple of things because I knew friends were going to bid and they got them cheap in my estimate, Had fun inspecting and “playing” with the Holland & Holland Royal Double rifle, a really good example of the gunmakers art that I couldn’t afford in a month of Sundays, but at least I had a play. I will certainly go again but now have to look to Rollies auction at the same venue on 13th, Cheers.

Loaded heaps of ammo, then ended up looked after sick family and taxing to various doctors. Seems like everyone is slowly on the mend. Did manage a couple hours worth of shooting at local range. That’s about it. Pretty vanilla this week.

Went to the range and shot the normal club competition, didn’t do to badly.
Now I just have to clean the guns and reload some ammo to keep the wife happy while I am away.

Looks like you need a couple more holes in the fire bin to allow some more air in.

That is literally my mates washing machine that packed up on Thursday

Oh and I’m sure a bit of duct tape will have that washing machine as good as new.
