Savage A22R discussion

Yes I have seen the Butler Creek ones none currently in Aus that I could find. Also even in the US I think that Butler Creek may have stopped making mags for the A22 from the info on a couple of places that I looked.

Geez the ass has fallen out of these things. Safari firearms are selling all the variants cheap as chips!!

Soon to be buy 1 get 1 free lol.

Might be a new one coming out so they are dropping the price to clear stocks.

Give it another couple of weeks and theyā€™ll be $5 with a free PTA

That will give a reason for @juststarting to buy a couple more

Really odd that the stainless steel is cheaper than the standard blued version.

I thought the same thing, maybe they have a bunch of stainless ones to get rid of.

$50 more for the pro varmint too.

They are fun riflesā€¦ There are a few reasons I think. Bad initial reviews. They do benefit from a bit of tuning. CZ515 is the better option and something else is on the horizon. However, with covid, factories closed and everyone is sick, I think itā€™s a bit hard to consider the ā€˜something newā€™ option. Maybe just clearing stock, but who knowsā€¦

Iā€™ll see if any of my bets pay off at this upcoming auction. If they donā€™t and these deals are still around, I might go the pro varmint.

I found this thread purely because I was looking for a shorter barrelled 22 and saw the safari sales and am wondering if itā€™ll be worth the cheap fun or do I go with a cz or another Tbolt

Hey ya, that really depends mate, what is it for and how much you have to spend. Itā€™s not really ā€œshortā€ barrel, not as short as say Cz515 or Ruger American Compact; or any of the funky PWS 22s. What were you considering it for?

@Lukeveltman you might want to have a look at this too:

For that price you really canā€™t go wrong. My only real gripe with the gun is the magazine. Can be a bit of a pain in the ass to load, forget about using waxy ammo.

I know the price difference is only getting bigger between this and the CZ, but really there is no comparison.
Just save up and get the CZ, might be 3 times the price but itā€™s 10 times the gun!

I wouldnt say that the price has dropped right out of the A22. Its not much cheaper than what i paid for mine. Remember that there was a $200 cash back on a lot of the models up until now. NIOA has probably just passed this directly on to the gun shops rather than have to deal with every member of the public that buys one.

@bentaz 10 times the gun is a big statement. I do like the release on the CZ better and being that these guns main feature is the release I guess I would agree it wins the head to head. But the A22 in the pro varmint has a nice stock its well balanced light but sturdy and very accurate. Perhaps I would go to twice the gun but I like the price of the A22.

I stand by the 10x better. But I have never liked the savage, even before the CZ was introduced. JS brought his out here when he first got it and itā€™s always been just meh, but I love classic guns and then I like full tac-tard stuff like my berika with banana clip n red dot and the CZ.

Depends what CZ model @Lukeveltman was referring toā€¦

Iā€™ve had a chance to put a few hundred rounds through my profile varmint version.
The magazine loosens up a bit after some use. There is a knack to loading it, once you work it out, pretty easy.
Accuracy has been surprisingly good. Equal or better to any bolt action in the same price range.
The action is nice off a bench for plinking. Much heavier and longer gun than my cz515. For that price , I would buy one. I canā€™t speak for the sporter and stainless, but consider the pro varmint sits in a $250-$350 stock and itā€™s definitely a bargain.

Hereā€™s a review of the misfiring issue I ran into with my A22R. Really frustrating. Anyone had the same problem ?
