Dont forget I dont know who it was that put the article up but these guys were instructed to hide in fox holes until the tank was 100yrds away before shooting. That is pretty gusty. going up against a Tank with the big gun several machine guns ans small arms with a bolt action big rifle stuck in a ditch.
Of course, there are conspiracy theories like, lite, can carry more ammo, don’t need a large cartridge and all that other BS. However, we all know, that you are just a bunch of modern softies. Men back then were tougher, harder to kill, hence a larger round.

There is very little difference between what a 303 and 308 can carry powder wise. The 303 being taller but a thinner case, very deceptive.
