Indeed it is . Was hard not to buy this one myself . But it would derail the greater good on another im looking at
East coast buyers only due to calibre limitations. Thanks WA keeping prices down in the east.
I looked at those Serbus when they first came to Australia, Tbey were $3800 or so new. I really thought I wanted a .50BMG.
I got serious and started crunching the numbers and did a bit of research.
Turns out, although powerful, the .50BMG is not a particularly accurate round. Hence the .416 and .375’s that share the parent case but are far more inherently accurate.
I know the enthusiasts use individually turned projectiles, but they cost a small fortune. Quality factory match projectiles are also $$$
I had to be real and acknowledge the furthest I really get to shoot is 500m at Eagle Park.
Other issue was simply the base cost. Even back then , factory ammo was $10-$15 a round.
Reloading could get it down to $6-$8. Just too much for me.
In the end, I had to let the dream of a “big fiddy” go.
Sure is awesome to shoot someone else’s though
Also…put simply, they just are not fun to shoot…10 shots and you have a headache almost!
Sounds like 5 shots with the browning semi 12g in my teens
We didn’t have earpro however
Got to say I haven’t really enjoyed shooting a 50 cal. the muzzle break made so much debris fly back in my face in my mouth eyes nose and every where else. Then as you say they have a trajectory very similar to a 308 but a recoil that beats you up after just a couple of shots. Then the cost $10+ per shot or at least 7 if you purchase and reload in bulk. Just not my idea of fun. Give me the 22LR 50 shots for $10 no need for recovery time afterwards.
Last time i shot friends rifles, was 6 shots of a Steyr HS50, and 1 shot of a Boyes 55 tank rifle. Made the choice easy for me…Give me a 308 for the same distances we were shooting, anyway.
I have wanted one since we all shot bretts one at plinkfest, but i want to shoot TB and cast pills.
Makes it affordable and a useable hunting round even!
Makes sense coming from an Artillery guy. Tip it may be too heavy to carry around with your recent back surgery.
Sexy but It lives on the wrong side of town. The dark side.
Yeah, but it’s soooooooooooooooo cool. I have a full length version I would love a carbine.
Yeah…i want too!
Me three!
This is not a real wish I could buy it. But it looks like a good value buy.
Also looks a lot better than the moded 7615 I have.
