I used to drive a VS.
I mean, I just wanna shoot them. A full stock would be nice, but also a bit rarer and more expensive.
Just looking at Lithgow SMLEs, the non sporterised ones all seem around the 1k margin, where as the ones with a chopped stock are around $500.
Don’t be silly. My opinion, some may disagree, but personally, I wouldn’t give cash for a COMMON ruined milsurp rifle. Buy once cry once. If it’s sporterised and you’re ready to drop $500, then pause, think and save another $300. Seriously though, they are as common as dirt. Don’t get a sporter, unless it’s something rare and specific. In your case, sleep on it, don’t buy junk.
Just to wear my British Gun Expert hat for a moment, the No 4 is not an SMLE - it’s a different rifle. They have similar actions, but they’re not interchangeable.
As @juststarting said the sporterised ones are not worth much at all. Ones that are in good condition and all matching numbers if they have later been used as target rifles will have a little plate on the left hand side where rear sights can be attached. The factory rear sight will probably be missing. The barrel will also most likely have a H stamp on the top face near the action indicating a heavy barrel. Its not that heavy by todays standards. These rifles go from about $300-800 depending on condition, and what sights are included
As someone who has bought a few milsurps in the last year, my advice is know your prices and wait. Deals will come up. Prices also seem to go in waves too.
I think from a value point of view, Swedish Mausers are amazing. Got mine for $500 in excellent condition.
OK here are a couple of goodies…
If any f you bloke’s are trying to find that perfect present some of these might fill the spot.

Collectors, lmao. That Maxim is yellow lol. Doesn’t hurt to oil and maintain. But nooooooo. The patina, my loooovely patina. The only collectors that I bet get of on having their shit rust away.
I have no idea what I am looking at in that first photo. The rest of them well you would have to be keen to spend that sort of money. Perhaps it is all just a matter of how much money you have to spend on toys.

Comment: Last one of two offered with better jacket, replaced butt for display sa one sold last run of add, Maxim 08/15 display mg suitable for rebuild or deac as no internals, only outer body and flash hider remains. Registered in state as working gun so interstate wanting as deac will need to supply dealer to ship to. Buyer of will be offered more limited parts to purchase to go with it if so desired. Historic note -many wanted 08 rather than commoner 08/15 so war trophy committee issued 08/15 with instruction to remove butt and grip to make them look like 08. A fair chance thats what happened to these. A cheap display piece for someone only allowed deacs or has access to parts and desire to rebuild sn 7073

The Maxim is generally known as one if not The most reliable machine gun ever made, mostly due to its water cooled barrel.
The Maxim was also heavy and massively over engineered. Hopelessly non mobile, but from a fixed position they essentially had an unlimited fire duration assuming you could keep it supplied with ammo.
This.
It’s rad isn’t it!
There is one getting around that’s rebarreled in 50bmg it comes up for sale every few years.
Definitely something I would love to have
Hmmm not for $18k. Interesting piece of kit though.
