Game: Guess that cartridge

Would it be a mk1 .455 Webley?

Is it Dutch?

No, a close call though!

In a way, yes, but which one?

Spencer maybe?

Or Springfield?

Is @juststarting going to need dies for this in the near future?

Nah, I said Springfield, not Snider

Na not that one

Something Nagant?

Not really, Leon Nagant had some input in designing the revolver, but none in this cartridge. GUN-DMC is on the right track, and Wombat is closer to size.

Is it a 10.6mm schulhof?

No, close though. You could start a debate among collectors about whether such a thing exists or if it is a variant of the 10.6 Ordinanze!

OK, this has gone on long enough, I thought this might be a stumper for those not intimate with late 19thC revolvers but it is proving a problem child. Even among collectors it is uncommon, and still a cause for debate about some of it’s characteristics. here is the revolver and a box of ammo, I will name it when I get home from work tomorrow if it is not solved by then, Cheers

Is the pistol a LeMat?
Is the cartridge a 11mm Chamelot-Delvigne?

9.4 nagant/ 9.4 Belgian?

OK, times up. The cartridge is the 10mm Soerabaja (Surabaya), the last type made for the M/91 KNIL revolver originally issued with the Dutch 9.4 Metropolitan of 1873, a slightly bottle necked cartridge replaced with the straight wall 9.4x23 KNIL, the right hand cartridge in the “family” pic, which in turn was replaced with the flat point 9.4mm Police, the 2nd cartridge in the “family” pic, and finally the 9.4x27, better known as the 10mm Soerabaja.
