It’s an old myth mate. You can most certainly shoot wheel weight lead. However…it can be harder to load

Now I don’t cast but I did read somewhere that you could use wheel weights.
Wheel weights are harder than pure lead…Will cast slightly larger in diameter than pure lead…and are very good for cartridge firearms up to around 1500fps.
Lead is softer,will load easier,and distort better. But there’s a lot of hooey people say about using ONLY pure lead in muzzleloaders…best one I’ve heard is you can only use pure lead in a flintlock…why? Does the addition of a caplock make the barrel more capable of firing harder lead ? Rubbish I say

Dry balls can really ruin your day.
Sometime you can get it out by removing the nipple and pouring some powder through the flash hole.

Ordered this the other day, it’s gotta come from Russia so who knows when it might turn up, but plan is to load them in the smoothbore and see if they might shoot as well or better than the round balls.
If it’s no good I can still load them up in my 16ga so either way it’ll get put to use.
I reckon those things will make an impressive exit wound.

You can shoot either, but I think the soft lead will be more accurate with the BP pressure curve.
Only 4 months late (F.U. Covaids), but my mold finally arrived today from mother Russia.

They are actually made for 16ga shotgun which luckily I also have, so yeah, happy times
