Budget rifle builds

you need to at least come and grab your 500 stuff, lol, but yes we should shoot stuff!

You know… I might be persuaded to sell the FrankenHowa and use the cash to rebuild this old Omark…
Fat arsed Trueflite barrel in 7mm08 (you could rechamber to something bigger after another couple of thousand rounds). Trued action by gunsmith. Atlas bottom metal and AI 10 round mag. 20moa rail… Talley from memory…

You just need to dress it and put a scope on it because my left hand stock is a nightmare.
Could even include brass and dies and a load recipe that shoots well under 0.5moa @ 100yd…

Maybe… :thinking::thinking::thinking:

At this rate we might have to start a GoFundMe page for @AusTac.
Not to buy him rifles but to seek some counseling as I bet his head is still spinning from the choices that have been given to him to help him make a decision.

He’s probably just going to get another bolt shotgun with precision ammo hehehe

Red ammo cause it goes faster.

Sounds silly but I think there is a bit of liking of the plastic red tip bullets just because they are red and pointy.

We were talking about shotgun shells.

What kind of stock is on it? I can’t see the photos aa i don’t have permission, lots of cheap omarks around!

Yeah its not one you would like. A stock standard hunting type surprisingly. Not adjustable in any way and not a great shape for target.

@AusTac no way, I love this thread.

Did you get one yet? Hehehe

The choices are nearly endless.

I wouldn’t say endless. There’s only a handful of calibres that pro long range competitors use. Look at the winners across say 5 year period. And there you have it. Rest is just doing cost benefit and availability analysis on brass, pills and factory ammo.

Or stop this nonsense and 308!

Been emailing my gunsmith re: building on an Omark and he suggested to stay well around the pressures of the original 308…
Going short mag might be asking too much. Also, other than f-class standard, nobody shoots a 308 long range in any serious respect these days…

Match Rifle is the other one. SSR V 5.0e chapter 18 1000, 1100 and 1200 yrd and sometimes 1500 and 1600 yrd shot with 308.

Yeah but @AusTac isn’t wanting to build a match rifle, exactly, is he…
