Lol, i think u just made a donation to the pedofile club of Ballarat.
Itās cold here in Mt Beauty. Snowing in the Alps overnight. A taste of winter. Helped a mate chainsaw up a tree that came down on his property overnight. I donāt know why, it was healthy but big. Probably waterlogged ground and it was top heavy. Pretty big one and green so no use for firewood until next year. Fires going again Iāve got about 8 metres of red gum left. My back is stuffed and am having a few beers.
Nice one, fires going here too, spent yesterday getting wood and my backs stuffed today now too, Lol!
I was gonna try for a bambi this arvo but the wife got called into works so Iāve got the kidlet.
The trials of having a wood fire. No gas up here but a wood fire is a lot better, puts out real heat. A bit of work but worth it.
Iām in the same boat mate only heat is the fireplace. I have given some thought to putting in a gas heater but just burning wood still for now.
You can get LPG gas cylinders around here but they are expensive. Just not worth it. Cheaper burning wood and better heat.
Bottled gas is the only option here too. With my back not being what it used to be gas might be cheaper than buying wood, something that hurts my pride to have to do.
I donāt buy the red gum, just get it off a mates property. But you still have to chainsaw it up. Split it and cart it back to my place. It costs $380.00 for two metres of red gum to be delivered around here. I know red gum is the el primo firewood and will be in short supply soon. Iām just lucky to have a neighbour who has a good supply of it. Donāt know how he gets away it, I donāt ask.
But itās still hard work. Very dense timber. Probably have to get bottled gas sooner or laterā¦if I can afford it.
Yes I have been doing the little squirrel thing getting ready for winter. As we only have wood heating and a back operation in two weeks is going to put a end to firewood for a while. We started the fire today. I told the wife to go and get the neighbors chimney brush as the fireplace needed some cleaning out. she didnāt listen an hour later the house was filled with smoke and the fireplace had turned the wood to charcoal as it just couldnāt breath. After a few yelling matches at each other we got the fire out let it cool just enough to clean it out. All the doors open as the smoke just wouldnt go up the chimney. The charcoal that builds up in the chimney falls down and lands on the baffle plate and eventually just blocks the lower part of the chimney.
Wood fire is the best thing everā¦ this year I donāt have a pile of wood ready unfortunately. I do have a few cubic meters of gum, but I will need to hire a hydraulic splitter as my splitter axe thing doesnāt make a dent in the thingā¦it was qtrs cut from a tree 2-3m diameter stump than fell
Geez, cutting timber, getting fires going etc, was a lovely 37 at the range today with out a puff of wind.
Even now at 7.15pm our time it is still 27.
Yes it was like that a few days before. We are talking Vic or Melb surrounds here 40 deg on day 13 the next.
Every year my pile of wood seems to have got bigger. Esp since the 2009 fires just so many dead trees either fallen, falling or still standing about to fall on you. Luckily I got hydraulic wood spliter that connect to the tractor about 15 years ago. Even that had a hard time with quite a few this year so far. The amount of wood prior to wood splitter was heaps less and much more selected wood that would split easily and not so big.
Much nicer day here today.
Took the kidlet for a bit of a stomp up mt. Sturgeon at the bottom end of the Grampians.
IItās about 2.5km each way, was a good day out.
Nice view from there, is that at the top?
I be wary of the bloke in blue, he looks a bit shifty lol.
Thatās a long way from me. More hydraulic splitting of red gum today. Sooner or later itās going to get very cold. Just about have enough to see me through winter now.
That must be one of the very few hikes i havent done in the area.
Took the kids almost every easter for perhaps 16 years and a lot of xmas"s too.
Great place for bird watching as im sure you know. Keep an eye open for the Reds around the lake and creek near town.
Elephant hide is a good one and make sure you do the pinnacel via wonderland. (from town via creek to pinnacle)
Cheers mate Iāll check them out.
I saw a bassians ground thrush, flame robins. I got to look down on a wedge tail and got glimpses of a few scrub robins I think but bird watching with the little nutcase is hard as she runs around doing flips n shit non stop and could talk under water lol.
Wouldnāt it be funny though if @GUN-DMC was actually 12 year old girl behind a computer though
My night was interesting, we had a chat at the unit with a mica paramedic for when we get into road crash rescue situations and how we may need to work with the ambos and other emergency services inter agency. Some of the storiesā¦ things like femurs getting shot out your ass and all sorts
Are you guys running combustion heaters or just open fires?
A connara or similar with an electric fan really helps get the most heat out of your wood.
I know its not connara but the proper spelling trips the fucking censor.
