That’s why they have insurance. Pretty sure if we added what we pay in mandatory medicare and the medicare levy it would get us pretty good insurance.
Agree completely. I have a lot to say on this for various reasons but this isn’t the place.
All I will say is thank god for the pharmaceutical benefits scheme.
Or even better, we could do things like the more civilised countries and have full free medical for everyone and do away with private vultures making a buck from peoples health issues.

From what I’ve seen of the NHS in England i’d rather be in the US and have to pay. No such thing as free medical, someone always pays as governments don’t make money, they take it.

If you want to look at proper Capitalism (which is what you are insinuating), like really, proper, by the book, unregulated and all, the nonsense that sheltered boy Shapiro preaches - look at any third world African country. And for real, accurate communism - North Korea. These are the theoretical extremes.
There is this are in between, called being a human, I am all for people making copious amounts of money unhindered and being enabled to do so, I mean, I loooove money… Certain things, like a safety net and free healthcare should be a part of that system, in fact they facilitate the ‘making money’ bit. Because when you don’t have it, the ‘poors’ get together and start taking things from the rich, which creates corruption and eventually a revolution (Tzar’s Russia being one example, France being another). BLM movement being the most recent one. It’s a balancing act for a prosperous and productive society. Anything else and it becomes a shit hole.
The whole health insurance, seems to be a wrought to me. No amount of it will save you from cancer. There also seems to be a serious communication breakdown when palliative care people can diagnose better than doctors…

I understand what you’re saying but that is what community spirit is. Being of a capitalist bent doesn’t mean you sit there saying fuck everyone else. If you see someone that needs a hand you help. I would rather give out personal charity than the gov taking my money and saying the charity came from them and only doing half assed effort. I grew up in a small rural town and can see what a community can do without the red tape factory getting involved.
Basically we want the same thing but I want it direct from the individual, you want it passed through the government.

Yeah, I split it into two. Three even. The community spirit, etc. - I don’t think that will ever work at scale. I don’t think that will ever work in general too. A ‘small’ community does not have enough cash to fund a heart surgery. It’s a fairy tale. Then, yes, I want it free. And lastly - yes, I am ignoring the question of where is that free money going to be coming from. I am looking at it individually. Last one, I haven’t thought about, but adding KPI to government employees would surely solve that issue.
That would be great if they weren’t the ones measuring their own KPI and voting actually had some bearing on performance and not just popularity.
Imagine if they couldn’t run for re election if they only met 80% of kpi targets.
