Walther PPQ M2 22LR life span.........

Thought I would inform the crew that after 20,000 rnds in my Walther and about 18,000 rnds thru my mates we have put them in a zip lock bag and done a swap for a couple of new 22LR plinkers … They have both been pretty good, mostly trouble free using all sorts of ammo, usually the ones on special … They were just worn out which I suppose is to be expected of a alloy/plastic affair, they have been replaced by a couple of Beretta 92FSR 22’s which are quite good and maybe a couple of SIG P226 22’s will be added to vary the theme, should see us out for many more years. We can shoot a couple of times a week so throw quite a bit down the range, interspersed with some 9mm …

I’m a bit OCD and log rnds made, fired and all sorts of stuff … handy to look back and find out why I’m mostly broke all the time…

@Salty4 what made you ditch PPQ? I am around 20k round count on mine with xero issues. Primarily using mini-mags, but recently switched to CCI standard. Are there any specific parts or symptoms I should watch out for?

Hi there @juststarting, my PPQ which I loved had a firing pin fail around 10K rnds which didn’t bother me but from about 19,000 rnds it would have issues with striking and loading, at first I put it down to rubbish ammo as been a lot around but after running with some decent stuff, found even though the slide ran fully to rear sometimes the hammer wouldn’t catch or didn’t arm, CCI, Golden bullets and a few others tried so I pulled the PPQ down and found a crack in the RH chassis and the usual lug broke off the LH chassis when my thumb slipped off the hammer, discovering the firing pin spring was crushing again so I decided too many fails to bother repairing, cheaper to get another, mates PPQ is going the same way as his gets close to 20K rnds …Have always had snap caps in it. While many say the lug breaking off is because of dry firing it isn’t as the hammer doesn’t come near it unless the slide is removed… All in all I still like the PPQ but now warming to the Beretta well once I fit a decent sight to the rear…

Interesting, will keep an eye out. Thanks!

The only issu I’ve experienced so far is slide not looking back on last round. Although, thats super rare, mix of my grips and probably weaker odd round.

Good to know, will report back of it happens.

I cleaned mine after every shoot, usually 100-150 rnds a session, 22 is such a dirty ammo, would be good for 500 rnds as I tested how long before an issue once but inside looked like a tar pit, besides being near the beach meant easy to find sand had got in amongst things on windy days... Mine was about 7 years old..
