How’s your Taipan holding up? I’ll be considering but also hoping NSW approval comes through for the Stockade. Love a MPR micro if appearance laws ever ease up but I won’t hold my breath.
I was looking at the new Tipains the the other day. They’re pretty cool, but then the new Celik arms lever release .223 arrived at the shop. It’s cheaper and faster. Then again maybe you’ll need both. Lol
Takedown on the Chimera is a hell of a lot easier too. One thing that’s really putting me off getting the Taipan, that and the reported reliability issues.
Ask yourself what you want the gun for, like realistically what are you going to use it for the most. Neither one are bench guns… So if you want fun plinking, consider speed, weight, material, etc. Neither one is a “forever” gun, just modern sporting rifles, so consider if you are going to bang it against trees or barricades, what’s going to scratch more (alloy by the way), etc.
Takedown, I would consider how everything fits together rather than how easy it is to take apart. For example, if it forces you to lose zero, then you will need a range session after each clean. Overall however, it’s not a big deal. Weight, material, use case.
Looks to be well made (for a Turkish gun), pretty basic design so I don’t see much going wrong with them. Rail is mounted to the barrel but the whole thing also dovetails to the receiver so I think it should hold zero when disassembled and put back together. I like the ergonomics of it, it’s heavier than I would of expected, but that and the auto ejecting action should make for very light recoil. Ships with a couple of 10 rnd mags, I don’t know off hand if they are proprietary or if it’s compatible with other common mags though.
I haven’t shot one or had any feedback from anyone that has, I just pulled it out of the box, put 1 together and fondled it a bit.
I have a gen1 buckmaster that’s been uuuuused. Only issue i had over time, is rollpin backing out. Had that replaced, drop of red locktite in the cavity helped. Other than that seems to be fine.
