A couple of shorts of his excellency, @Supaduke doing the practical shotgun comp… Must say, pretty nimble for a bloke of his stature. I even added some music for motivation.
Stumbled across this whilst looking into shotguns for practical competition.
Shawmac industries converted the last of the Berika Black Ops SG’s in Australia to lever release. Quality/Reliability seems questionable at best with these, but an interesting bit of kit non the less. Surprisingly legal in NSW.
Like IPSC kind of practical?
Yeah, the poor blokes had me in his ear.
I’m getting a T2000 for SSAA Practical, but the new mag fed Buck Master looks very “practical”
I might have to look into a Cat C for it on my gimp status.
In Vic you can, but limited to two.
So far, T2000 is the most reliable out of the box. At least what I’ve seen. Buckmaster Gen2 could be sexy, but might need a bit of filing work, a bit sharp to load on the move fast. Magazines, ooof, I’d go tube, also, I’m not sure 10 roun ld magz are allowedanymore. They are in vic for ipsc, but that’s really it. I absolutely love my 14" sulun. Has been repaired and runs suuuuuper smooth now, but 5+1 is not really competitive enough. That said, i don’t care because i love it.
By my estimates, i need 2 more shotguns ![]()
Yeah, this week!
In Qld you can too for your injured and recoil sensitive shoulder with a medical cert, but up here from memory I think you were required to modify semi auto shotguns to two round capacity, which sounds retarded but the guns were getting requested for sporting use so clays/skeet etc, so that was WLB’s way of saying FU and making the semi’s issued no more “dangerous” than a double barrel.
But this is all just hearsay as I’ve never done it and don’t personally know anyone who has either.
Exactly how it is in Vic.
I suspect it’s the same here in NSW, I should see if I can get a 5 shot over the line for prac shotty.
Worth investigating, because who knows if no one tries?
They can only say no and then again when I appeal and then again when I write to the chief commissioner!
WA has way more fun…
Here’s some IPSC goodness I’ve found this week with hardware that wouldn’t fly here in NSW. Shame.
…but is it worth it?
Not worth moving to Westistan.
I guess here in NSW a 5 shot will be competitive because we’re all limited to 5 rnds.
My rail showed up today, I’ll give it a thrashing this Sunday and report back.
Just sent this off to the registry, they’ll probably tell me no, but nothing ventured, nothing gained!
G’day,
It is my understanding that it is possible to get a Cat C shotgun for shooting clays if you have medical conditions. My query is does this ability extend to shooters of Practical Shotgun?
https://ssaa.org.au/assets/disciplines/practical-shooting/Practical-Shooting-rule-book.pdf
Above is the SSAA,s rule book explaining Practical Shotgun, in case you are not familiar with it.
I am a member of the Grafton Pistol Club and the SSAA NSW N26 branch and we are hoping to start running “Prac” events. As a disabled Veteran with a collection of chronic spinal conditions a Cat c shotgun would make this sport much more accessible for me.
Thank you for your time in this matter.
Cheers,
Ben
Took the T2000 to the range this morning, set up a few plates and chewed through boxes of shells.
It runs nice, theres definitely some learning and new muscle memory to form.
I got a bit carried away trying to twin load quickly and got my thumb stuck in the mag tube. Lol
Let a few club members have a go too, trying to gather up some support for running Practical matches. I still have a while till we can run matches (remediation to the back wall coming) but plan to run a heap of practice until then.
Have just loaded up a couple of boxes of dummy rounds so I can practice reloads in front of the telly. @Mitch I did a box for you too, I know you don’t have the Duck Sauce yet, but I figured while I had the shotgun press set up
!
Unreal mate, that’ll be just what I need shortly. Appreciate the foresight!
Will have to adjust loading technique for duals, keeping the knuckle of the thumb at 90° and driving shells with her tip of the thumb rather then the pad to avoid getting bit by the carrier.
Apparently it’s called Benelli thumb, some people go as far as extending the carrier to avoid issues while speed loading. Might be something to look into while you trick up your new toy ![]()
