Are percussions caps classed as primers or ammunition?
Are registration papers still required to purchase ammo in NSW?
Don’t know about the caps, but I know you need rego papers to buy handgun ammo, not for rifle ammo though.

Last time I purchased large pistol primers I didn’t have a problem, so I was hoping percussion caps would be the same.

I don’t think you’ll need anything other than you gun license to buy caps. No one needs to show rego papers to buy primers, all ammo / powder / primer purchases have to be recorded in NSW so shops are going to want to see your license, but that’s all.
