…aaaand as long as there are fudds making fun of younger guys trying to get into the sport with tactical gear it’ll never happpen.
Oh ye, 6.5gaymore, 6.5manbun, shit like that. Put yourself in those shoes. I want to get into the sport. This is super popular and cool cartridge and suddenly you get smahsed with condescending jokes and tones (instead of using their knowledge regardless of personal preference to recommend a path aligned to that person’s choice), no thank, I’ll take up a different hobby. We are our own enemy.
Part of that could be avoided by gun stores not suggesting people buy “the new hotness”, too.
So someone comes in and says “I’ve heard 6.5CM is really good”, dealer says “Depends what sort of shooting you’re doing, but it burns out barrels and is expensive; might I suggest a .308 instead?”
I mean, I like shooting old military cartridges but I’ve been doing it a long time and knew what I was getting into when I started, but if I’d gone in as a new shooter looking for a meme cartridge I’d seen on the internet I’d be more pissed off if someone in the shooting community here hadn’t tried to explain why it might not be a good idea.
Obviously there are waaaaay too many fudds in the shooting sports here though, and I’d like to see all the shooting organisations start taking a much more vocal “STFU you cranky old fudd” approach to things.
As far as Queensland’s gun laws are opposite to WA ATM, I can see them as the next state to fold. All the media on youth crime and other crime drives these policy changes and peoples attitudes. Its such a sham as nothing will change in the crime stats. perhaps the mode of death may change slightly but that will be the only change.
Probably (imho) the most grounded Australian guntube channel. And the most apolitical too! So on those super rare occasions they post something, I have a lot of time for them…
The lack of fair consultation reeks of the recently imposed ban on bowhunting here in SA. All it took was a deputy premier that hates hunting and hunters who couldnt coordinate their opposition. The Governor was absolutely no help, the vast majority of the time they just do what cabinet tells them to do.
QLD at least has the advantage of Shooters Union being based there, and having a lot of rural MPs who like guns. It also has a functioning media and an effective “third party” (KAP).
The “Youth Crime” issues in QLD are mostly about kids breaking into places, and stealing/joyriding cars, and most (but not all) of it is in the northern parts of the state.
My money is on Tasmania folding next - island state that no-one really cares about, low population, lots of lefties living there, etc.
