Interesting article from the ABC re the validity of mental health checks to predict violent behaviour…
In it CASA say
“… it is important to be clear that people with mental illness are not destined to become violent offenders, and most violent offenders do not have a mental illness.”
and
“It is the sad reality that people from all walks of life are capable of violent acts that can’t be predicted with any form of medical examination or assessment,”
So, if CASA believe this, why would WA firearms think there is value in mental health checks.
I’m guessing the difference is CASA live in reality and try to base their conclusions on evidence and facts without bias. Whereas WA firearms are a pack of shit heels who’s objective is to disarm the state and who wouldn’t recognise the truth if it came up and kicked them in the face.
It’s not only CASA - the Royal Australian College of Psychiatrists and Royal Australian College of GPs says the same thing, and they’ve also said that asking gun owners about mental health is a fantastic way to get them not to seek help for mental health issues, and spread mistrust of doctors in rural communities generally. No-one wants to be the GP who said Bazza shouldn’t have a gun anymore, which means he lost his licence and subsequently the farm itself (or decided losing his gun licence on top of everything else was too much, and decided to prematurely exit).
