My Redding Big Boss shit the bed this week. This was the cheapest press I could find to keep me going while I squirrel away a few bucks to get something decent again.
Pros:
Only $146
it’s technically a reloading press
Great access
Will fit in a shoebox sized reloading room
Cons:
You get what you pay for
Ram is a bit sloppy
Will fit in a shoebox sized reloading room
Lees Breech Lock system is almost as hetero as @juststarting & @Supaduke docking
It’ll get me through this pile of 9mm, but be fucked if I’d wanna arm wrestle 30-06 on the thing.
Thanks mate, yeah it hurts the pride as much as the finger. Lol.
So I’ve deprimed and resized a few hundred 9mm cases on it now and I don’t hate it. I think for someone just getting into reloading and only doing smaller rounds, pistol cases and probably up to any of the 308 case family (.308, .243, 7mm-08, .22-250 etc.).
Since it’s a flimsy single sided press the handle geometry has been designed so that it won’t put the sort of torque into it to reform brass or probably resize big magnum brass. Definitely wouldn’t have the precision serious target shooters would want, the frame would definitely flex when you lean on the handle a bit.
But it works and it’s definitely a cheap way to start reloading if you’re thinking about it, but not sure if you want to pour a ton of money into it.
I’ve reloaded a fuck-ton of 45-70’s using one of those every time I’ve travelled to the U.S.
It was left there by another Aussie that had been there before me who took it over because of its size and weight.
I’ve loaded up to 600 rounds in a session with it, clamps to hotel furniture easily as he had attached it to an aluminium plate. ( Or should that be an “aloominum” plate?)
Like all times when putting things in holes that may be tight…plenty of lube required.
