Gun cleaning solvents: reverse engineering and DIY

Not that much worse than Old Sp8ce , and much better than sock filtered Brasso, But on the basis of Wombats concerns re: the young or/and stupid, don’t drink metho, (but do put a cup in your car petrol tank a couple of times a year), Cheers.
The 8 is actually a letter i, but the fool computer program won’t allow the word because it can’t read effing English and differentiate between sp8ce and a forbidden word sp8c, ffs!

Agreed, if you drink metho you’re a dipshit and will do yourself serious harm! They guy who told me to mix it with boot polish was 3/4 of the way through drinking himself to death, a job he has since completed!

There was a different post (since deleted) that I was replying to, I just wanted to be sure any kid would get the warning.
Mind you these days they just buy mystery pills at concerts.

Also good to put a cup of it in your rainwater tank, stops mozzies from breeding in there.

I really have a hard time believing that a cup of Alcohol in a 80,000L water tank is going to have any affect on wrigglers? Just to go off topic a little  JS will have a heart attack and get his stick out on me again.

Lol Got to keep JS at bay. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Most people only have small tanks, 5k to 10k lts. With one your size you will need a lot more lol.

I thought it was either Kero or Turps for water tanks. Supposed to float on the surface and kill the wrigglers.
Whichever it was I tried (20+years ago) - it did work, but also tainted the taste of the water.

We use Metho, 1 cup in a 10k tank is plenty. As you say it floats on top and stops them.

Metho absorbs water, that’s why you add it to a petrol tank a couple of times a year. It wont float on top, like an oil etc.

Just put a goldfish in your tank

I still haven’t tested these things, but lately had to use some Ed’s Red which I mixed for milsurps and that got me thinking, a little more thinking… And.

I wonder, has anyone tried to clean bore with Cloudy Ammonia? I wonder if it would (a) lubricate the bore for cleaning, obviously you’d need to clean with something else after or patch out very well. And (b) would it work on copper fouling, like pushing out turquoise coloured patch…

Hrmmm.

need some stainless steel plates still. Had tubes, but really need plates.
