Growing Your Own Shot.

Seeds used as shot in ML Guns.
The seeds of the Canna lily (Canna indica) were indeed used as makeshift ammunition in various parts of the world where the plant grows. Their nickname “Indian Shot” directly references this historical use.

The seeds have a fascinating legend in their background. The Canna is also known as the ‘Indian shot plant’ in some quarters, due to the seeds having been used in shot gun shells by Native Americans who did not have ready access to the lead shot used by the encroaching settlers.

They are so hard that cannas used to be called Indian shot, because it is said that South and Central American peoples formerly used them instead of lead shot in their guns.

The deep impressions and gapping hole in this quarter inch plywood were made by seeds of Indian shot (Canna indica) placed in a 12 gauge shotgun shell and fired from a distance of 10 feet (3 m). Four seeds recovered from the shotgun blast (right) were still intact.

I’d love to know how far that was shot from.
I do a bit of gardening and have collected seeds from different Cana lilies, they are very light compared to BB’s , the ballistic coefficientcy on these would be garbage.

I still plan to load a few up at some point though for science.

Many years ago parrots were devastating one of our fruiting nut trees. My intention was to give them a good scare. Tree is about 10 meters away. I made up a load of dried peas. Tore a lot of foliage from the tree & sadly a parrot fell dead from the tree. Never did it again.
