First Rifle Help! Which Stock/Chassis for Howa 1500 Creedmoor

Nah these days if you put “target shooting” down the Online Form will not let you progress unless you join a club and provide evidence of doing so. Under Hunting however, the DWELPS (whatever it is) registration of interest does indeed suffice, but the game license was only $30 for a year on concession anyway.

I guess I could’ve not put down target shooting and then gone to the range anyway, but I didn’t think of it. However, if I get there 5 times a year the discount just about pays for the membership and I also got the Gun Insurance though SSAA which is an awesome deal.

It’s the only one I’ve been to, but I’ve gotta say it is good. People are social, it’s super wide with plenty of room and well sheltered, with the You Yangs providing a perfect backstop. I’ve always felt comfortable when I’ve been and the overall vibe is friendly.
Last time I went the corrugated roof had blown off but I’d assume they’ve replaced it by now.

Ye, I don’t actually think there is another range open to public for high powered stuff near Melb

Buy the 22lr first. Shoot a fuck ton of rounds in all wind conditions. Keep notes.
Then keep saving and buy a centerfire.
Wind is a bitch.
22 is cheap.
22 will show your lack of technique.
Don’t cheat yourself first up.

There will always be decent 2nd hand creedmores available.

Stop talking about the wind, you are giving me ptsd

Head wind, tail wind, quartering left…

Trailing right…

You mean the invisible C#$T.

The person who can truly master wind does not need to spend money on load development or gear.

Just time, patience and repetition.

Yup, no substitute for rounds down range.

I still can’t read wind, but! :face_with_monocle::+1::beer:

…but you put on your monocle, lick your thumb and drink some beer? Sounds like a very strange day at the “range”.

As good of a method to read wind as any other😄

Thumb goes in the beer :slightly_smiling_face:

The SSAA may not be a genuine reason, but it very well can be for both hunting, and target shooting.

@sbd850 I think you may have said what state you are in before but could you please let us know where abouts you are. There may be some on here that can help you on the journey practically speaking.

I gather he’s in Melbourne ( or nearby ) if Little River is his go-to range

For some reason I thought he was in NSW but all the recent references to Vic organizations has me wondering.

PS @juststarting the range is open today if your in the area or want to shoot.

Geelong in Victoria, and yes about 25 mins from Little River range

Whatever you do, dont buy this…its a bolt repeater, single shot…not good …about 1000 overpriced also…
