As some maybe aware, Ive gone back to the dark side, and bought a 45 kentucky caplock rifle…The lyman manual only lists FFG, but im sure FFFG works too! Anyone using FFFG in 45 cal muzzleloaders?? Good, bad, or otherwise?
I use FFFg in the .64 smoothie. I’ve never had a crack at .45

.45 is the cut-off for 3FG, any larger caliber usually recommends 2FG. So yes, you can use 3FG in a .45 cal, but the pressure from 3FG will be higher than using 2FG in the same measure. So start off with small loads until you find an optimal load.
