Bored shit-posting

They would have made a fortune there lol.
I am surprised that they didn’t have a shop or three there already.

Too right they would…last time I was in the NT i saw an indigenous bloke pay $40 for a 6 pack!!!

Broke my heart. Broke every heart in Darwin actually. The town was really looking forward to it. It was going to be located 874.5m from my front gate.

Don’t you already sell piss in the NT? Why would you want the competition?

Call me a sceptic but check out the very first bill submitted by mcgowan. Allow acts to be edited without them to be enacted in parliament. I know it will make his next term easier but fuck, at least pretend you’re not a dictator.

I know it will make it easier for people to read but it also means things can be memory holed easier.

Overview of the Bill This Bill proposes to modernise the processes for publishing WA legislation. It will enact a new Legislation Act that sets out the responsibilities for publishing WA legislation, provides for the official status of both hard copy and electronic versions of WA legislation and gives Parliamentary Counsel’s Office (PCO) a more useful set of editorial powers so that WA legislation can be kept up-to-date, modernised and simplified, and errors in it can be corrected, without the need for the changes to be enacted by Parliament. Important restrictions on the exercise of those editorial powers will remain. The Reprints Act 1984 will be repealed. In line with conferring official status on electronic versions of WA legislation, the electronic version of the Gazette will also be given official status. This Bill, with one minor substantive change to clause 33 and some other minor drafting changes, is the same as the Legislation Bill 2018 (the 2018 Bill) that was passed by the Legislative Assembly without amendment, and introduced into the Legislative Council, in 2018. The 2018 Bill lapsed on the prorogation of the Legislative Council on 7 December 2020.

And this, they’ve been doing the 2 week extension as per law regularly so will be interesting what term he going to extend it for.

“We’re going to make sure we extend the state of emergency legislation so we can deal with both [COVID-19] and any other emergencies that might arise”

Some places maybe. The only pricing I remember clearly was a BWS at the Katherine Woolworths, that was within 10% of Melbourne prices at the time.
Outback is always expensive no matter what state.

Competition?
Yeah, against the distributors up here perhaps.
I already buy pallets of some product through BWS and Coles Liquor because its cheaper than buying it direct from CUB or ALM.
Basically coles and woolies drive their own trucks to the breweries/distillers/importers and pick up stock and distribute it nationally. Everyone else relies on the b/d/i’s to organise distribution, and they pay more for the product. Woolies sends trucks full of piss to the NT, and spreads that cost over the whole nation allowing them to land a carton of beer on Darwins’ shelves way wayyyy cheaper than anyone else can.

The only thing that we have to protect us from being totally smashed by the big dudes is the mandatory Liquor Floor Price of $1.30 per standard drink. That means no cleanskins, no $3 bottles of Aldi port etc. A 2L cask of Renmano Chardonnay (the local favorite) wholesales for about $10.80 landed inc gst. Contains 21 standard drinks.
So we are forced by law to sell that cask for $1.30 x 21 = $27.30 (oy vey!).

Yes, that’s like 150% profit  By law I have to do this. Now, as a concerned shopkeeper I like to help out where I can, so I increase the price to $35 because…hey why not? It must be better because government says so right  Customers (the locals) don’t even care, it’s your taxes they are spending anyway.

/rant.

I find it funny how the government thinks making things more expensive will stop abuse of said things. Just means the kids don’t get to eat so mum can have a pack of durries or dad can get a block of piss.

20 years of shop keeping I have never seen the beer or the ciggies go back when it came time to checkout and the parents were short of cash. That’s people of all colors and creeds too, the bread goes back, the toys go back, the food goes back but never the smokes and booze.

Fucking sad really… (not sarcastically, just sad)

Since your an SME given your line of work, what are your thoughts on the welfare card ? Are people just trading them for a lesser cash value or has it made an impact ?

Being that welfare recipients are not an ho0m0genous group, I can only say that up here where my customers are mostly Basics Card holders, are aboriginal and live in comission housing, it works as well as I could expect it to.Regular customers buy regular stuff with them.
What I could see happening down in say…the northern suburbs of Melbourne is people with Basics Cards doing the shopping for small business owners in there own ethnic groups. Basically going to Coles and Woolies and spending their entire weeks dole on 1.25 and 2L and 30 can blocks of Coca Cola which is then traded probably dollar for dollar to their friends takeaway store. Buying bulk meats on special etc…there are so many things from The Big Two that are regularly cheaper than wholesale.

An example for our small mixed business:

*Deoderants
*Soft Drinks
*Toilet paper
*Nappies

Why am I doing a list? Basically everything at some point when its on special. When I had my very busy sandwich bar in Parap I would be buying lettuces, tomatos, other F&V, bacon, chicken breasts, soft drinks regularly because it was cheaper than the wholesaler. I can see a lot people trading their welfare for cash. And fair enough too.

Thanks for the response. I’ve heard many sides to this given twiggy was a big proponent to cashless welfare.

That wholesale issue is across a few industries. Usually the teared pricing screws over the smaller stores.

I would rather a Treaty be realised and piece by piece the areas returned made welfare free. Factories built, black fellas employed and trained and owning their existence. Start making the stuff we buy from China: masks, hand sanitizer, gloves etc. Buckets, tubs, simple shit.
Aborigines can push buttons and stack boxes as good as anyone else. Get off the cycle and build their own communities that earn money.

Unfortunately I live in clownworld. Honk! Honk!

That was the case down here, my understanding is the sand mine on Straddie employed heaps of Aboriginals in the mine (along with other locals). Apparently islands Aboriginal people had the highest per capita number of them being homeowners in the country along with the lowest numbers on welfare and lowest numbers of criminal incidents whether it be domestic or otherwise. To a degree it seemed to change a whole way of behaviour of their entire community as many of them also worked in other businesses and as the local rangers for national parks.
Then about 10 years ago the gov brought in the “Protection and Sustainability Act” for the island and they had to stop mining by 2019 which is when they also decided to hand the land back to the local indigenous people. I guess we’ll have to wait a bit to see the full effects of the closure…I don’t think it will be good one though. As a visitor to the area i have to agree with the opinions of many of the locals that the island seems to already be on the decline in some areas due to both the handover and the mine closure.

Hats off to these badass CIT crew. Attempted heist, kept their cool. An eye opener

I’d say hats off to the badass driver who kept his shit together nicely, the passenger was shitting himself and suffered a bit of brain freeze i think.

He didn’t do much, but he did at least STFU and follow instructions. Both stayed reasonably calm given the situation. I would rather someone be quiet and do as they’re told in a crisis than someone who’s screaming and losing their shit.

True, better to be quiet than running around in circles with his undies on his head, but it was pretty funny when he tried to give the driver the AR back after racking it. The driver was like um i’m kinda busy here buddy lol. Then didn’t follow old mate outside, he was like “fuck that!! i’ll just sit here make the ph call like you were telling me before”.
Great vid that shows just how quickly shit goes from zero to WTF in a split second.
