This is not your average porn pic of shiny brass or those sexy shiny lead slugs that JS has made. Its a little bit more on the kinky side. This is my latest addition to the reloading room a set of old laboratory scales that I got ebay for $200. There were quite a few others being offered for sale in the US for $500-$800+ I made a few offers of $250 US for the more expensive ones and several were accepted then I saw these for $495 I offered $200 and it was accepted. They weigh accurately and with repeatability to 1mg 0.001grm which is just a bit less than 0.02 grains. It means you can get consistent loads down to the kernel very OCD but it helps deliver very good ES and SD which helps at the long ranges 800-1000yrds.

In the background there you have all those berger bullet boxes, have you weight sorted all of those into gn lots?

Yes I buy 500 or 1000 and sort them. It is not as bad in terms of work as it would seem a bit boring and tedious but it sorts out the outliers, there are always a few bullets that are way to light or heavy. Those outliers could be the cause of vertical spread.
I sort them into 1mg batches. My old scales where some Chinese ones and they had a repeatability of about +/-3mg With experience I think I could get +/- 2 mg. Now I can confidently get the 1mg.
So I have 100 cases that are used for club practice and the light and heavy outliers will be used in those then I have cases that I will use for competitions and I will load them with the sorted bullets. The bullets you can see are 155 Berger Hybrids which weigh 10.050 grams. I find the majority of them from 10.045gm upto 10.059gm
I guess thats why you hit those 800m gongs, it astounds me the length some guys go to for accuracy, Ive always been a minute of goat / fox kind of guy, lol!
Word to pic ratio - what people don’t see, is that @GUN-DMC only posted a small point of view of his reloading ROOM. Yes, a room. The mofo has a dedicated standalone reloading room. With a neat little outdoor area for casting.
Baking some 44MAG pew pews (lubricating if anyone was wondering).
(N.B. learning experience, common calibers are in fact cheaper to buy, buy 500 or 1000)

Martini Henry 577-450 - those unfortunately I can’t buy anywhere, so had to cast. Also tried different method to lube them, not sure I like it. Another reason to learn how to reload or ‘hand load’ to be more exact. This is in fact a completely obsolete cartridge, last used over 100 years ago, that needs to be built from scratch. Even cases are custom made. Knowing how to hand load just opens up so many opportunities to shoot really cool stuff, which would otherwise be impossible.

Reloading oopsies… I did remove it, flipped it over and loaded it again LOL
FYI
For some reason Hornady 308 brass is crimped. I had a lot, so it was cheaper to buy a swaging die kit than chucking the brass. Brass wise, not bad, 6th firing, no annealing, going strong at near max loads, but too much bother.

…and this is why reloading is awesome. You can make 308 plinking rounds (for my Israeli Mauser, which is a dedicated Trail Boss 308 plinker). Loaded to max charge of Trail Boss, using 168gr powder coated cast HRBC bullets. Like shooting mild 223. Love it and certainly can’t buy that at a shop.

Does it need regular calibration?
The Chinese unit I had required re calibration every 15-30 min at least thats what I did. When I got this unit I calibrated it and it hasn’t needed calibration since. I have a few standard weights that I use just to make sure it is all good to go before use. Those two bullets on the back of the scale I use as standard check weights to check the scale across its range. Its great. Recal only takes about 1 min anyway so not a drama.

Took a little while, but finally got the bench made and running. Used form ply for the bench, has a nice hard wearing surface and it’s nice and smooth. Still need to tidy it up and organise better.
Managed to crank out 400 rounds of .223 last night. Set up worked well.
