Red Dot & Reflex Reviews - what you've got & what you think?

My Sig Romeo X compact arrived today, it’s tiny lol.

This is with the 2moa dot & 32moa circle on. I’m not a fan of the blue tint in the glass, it definitely makes low light situations worse. But on a gun that doesn’t get used it’s not really an issue.

Finished product with dot & grip sleeve.

It makes me think of

So after a bit of playing with it I’ve come to the conclusion that while overall I’m happy with it, some of the quality is lacking. The lens quality or fitment being the main one, there is some minimal distortion around the outer areas of the lens sight picture (no biggie), and the very edges there’s a clearly visible shitty edge (again not a deal breaker but enough to annoy me).
I’m not sure if it’s glue or just the dodgy edges of the lens being exposed. But it’s a shit finish and at the very bottom does slightly interfere with the co-witnessing of the iron sights, not enough to stop it, but enough to make you think it’s a cheap Chineezium sight & not a $700 Sig one. I did have a look online and seems to be the way they are. It’s really made me reconsider ordering their new Romeo-M17 for $800usd

Some photos to compare it to the the Leupold DPP $900 and the Vector $200 dots.

Sig $700, with dodgy fit/lens worthy of a nerf gun or gel blaster lol.

Sig again

Sig, the same crap is at the sides & top corners of the lens too but not as bad and couldn’t get it to show on photo due to reflections.

Vector Frenzy $200ish, A nice clean fit, TBH really on par with the DPP & much better than the Sig.

.
Leupold DPP $900, Perfect fit & what you’d expect for the price.

Sig you need to get your shit together or rethink your prices. Might have to try a Holosun next I think. :slightly_smiling_face:

Still thinking on what type/brand etc. It would be for a 22 lever action. Any info will be welcome.

Which model do you have? @Henry1954

Reason I ask, you may also need a pic to dovetail insert and a base plate for the dot. So it really depends on you budget and preference to looks. Personally, for 22s, I almost exclusively use Vector Optics dots. But really, for a 22 any dot will do, boils down to what looks best to you and budget. Any dot under $600 will look the same in terms of the actual projection.

I have a Henry H001 with a picatinny rail attached. I would spend around $400-$500 for a red dot. To be used mainly for plinking and close in bunny work.

@Henry1954 , henry i have a as pic,see add allguns .com au

estate item cheap. a start for you ? holla if interested.

Have a look on Xhunter. They are great and very reasonably priced. They are one of the Vector distributors i suspect.

For a 22 plinker, I’d be looking at a reflex sight. Not tube type. That’s up to you though. Personally I think if you are going to get a dot, get a reflex sight and learn how to use it. If you’re going for tube type, you may as well get LPVO.

400-500 is a bit of a weird price range. If you want to jump out of planes into water at night to hunt bugs bunny insurgents and have a durable dot that can withstand pressure and temperatur changes while you operate, top-end of 500 is a starting price. If you want convenient reliability, Vector is what you want, somewhere between $200-$300 range. I use it on a few comp guns that get swung and banged and they go okay (including 12ga, which claimed a Bushnell dot).

ZeroTech is a very average quality equipment at high prices. I wouldn’t be considering anything like that, ZeroTech, Vector, anything made in China on second hand market. You want that warranty.

Also, specifically ZeroTech, it’s a budget brand with good marketing in Australia. They are charging top dollar in Australia, but cheap as dog shit everywhere else. @Supaduke can tell you all about multiple warranty claims and spinning reticles.

$130, what @anon44498421 shared is a pretty good price. You’d be looking circa $250 for a new one. But that’s a preference thing - reflex vs enclosed tube. And risk it or get a new one with warranty.

Ultimately, don’t overthink it. Your budget is at the lower end, so pick one that looks the best to you and comes with a pic base plate mount.

Actually, this stuff shits me, like Vector is a very good budget optic (both dots and LPVOs), and they are sort of at the price bottom end of the usable, durable…

Then you have Vortex, heavy AF, used to be cheap, good budget brand. Still is everywhere else in the world. Australia, hey, everyone recognises the brand, so we must hike the price up. Like WTF, nothing changed c*nts. If anything, you went back in quality and shifted to China. Australians are being taken for a ride by local distributors.

Then we have ZeroTech. Arguably the worst quality control of them all. Some are good, some are very bad. Consistency and QC is just not there. Also, super heavy, also reasonably good brand recognition in Australia… So, you know what, lets hike them prices up again, because like you know…

We are just being taken for a ride. I’ve ordered direct from Dillon and direct from Optics Planet and direct from Brownells USA and in all cases it’s either the same price or cheaper. It’s just mental. Like stop tolerating this shit.

Or my favourite, hi guys, bought this new gun, not functioning well. What tools do I need? again, tolerating bullshit. A statutory warranty is the only tool you need. Return, refund, send a clear message.

Ok, rant over.

Appreciate the feedback and all the info. I will do some more research.
Cheers

Thanks but I am still researching. Appreciate the reply.

I would add that for a 22 and close range I would be looking at a 2MOA dot rather than a 3 MOA just because your gun will shoot much better than 3 MOA so by putting a 3 MOA aim point on it you are effectively limiting your accuracy potential. But I get caught up in maximizing accuracy over everything else.

Hahaha nice rant. Just while we’re on the topic of Chinesium optics. I had to order some bits that got lost off a Vector lpvo and XHunter were useless as fuck, and Optics Planet weren’t much better lol.
BUT I also emailed Vector direct, and after a few emails back and forth which (apart from some funny broken Engrish) were really helpful and precise from their end, like photos & arrows of “is this the exact part you mean?” and “which of these variations do you need?” to make sure they got it right.

Then for a grand total of $12 which included shipping from China the parts were on their way, also when they arrived there were double of everything I ordered.

Pretty good service from them as far as I’m concerned.

As more and more stuff is made in China , I’ve realised the Chinese can simply produce consumer goods at whatever price point and quality control you desire.

Knives, cars, tools whatever
Western companies selling consumer goods are nothing more than marketing figureheads trying to convince us as consumers their brand is better.

I respect the no name Chinese mentality.

You want this feature/quality standard, it cost this much. Brand not important.

Chinese retailers understand there is far more money in good prices and good service than short term ripping people off.

I’ve bought shit loads of stuff direct from China.

Delivery etas are well tracked and accurate

Emails answered promptly
Very reasonable , often free shipping

Seeing Aussie shops advertise an item , using the stock photo from Ali Express but at x3 the price is pretty fkn infuriating

A lot of Aussie retailers , especially gun shops could learn a thing or two from the Chinese

+1 for vector optics
Current bang for your bucks reigning champ.

Totally agree I have bought a shit ton of stuff from Aliexpress the service is great. If the item doesn’t arrive by the due date and you raise a inquiry your money is promptly given back and the item normally comes maybe a week or month later.

The free shipping sometimes is at our expense however as there are reciprocal arrangements between postal companies and the Chinese dont pay for the Australian part of the shipping that is left upto Aus post to pick up the cost.
But not in all cases some of the Aliexpres sellers somehow use door to door Australian delivery companies I have had $4 dog toys hand delivered by a man in a van to the front door.

Looking at dining chairs last year. Found nice example at a ‘clearance’ centre for $250 a piece but they didn’t have enough left for me. Salesman looks them up online & says some other places are selling them at $700 or something as they are ‘quality Italian made chairs’.

I took a pic & did an Alibaba image search…
$40 each. Italian leather dining chairs.
:thinking::flushed::hushed:

Only problem was 100MOQ; what am I gonna do with the other 88 chairs!?! :flushed:

Thats the difference between Alibaba and Aliexpress the later selling the items in the qty of 1 and up.

What Sungazer said. I made the same mistake and didn’t understand the difference between Alibaba and Aliexpress

If anyone’s interested in a cheap micro enclosed emitter reflex these are about to be available (like in 3 days lol) here in Oz. Olights new enclosed emitter reflex, but this one has a normal replaceable battery unlike the last rechargeable model.

They’re being released and on sale for $247 in a few days with a RRP of $309, so cheap how could you not buy a couple. I’ve got two sitting in my basket waiting for the countdown to end.

Now I’ve got to decide on another P365 model to order for one to go on

So the Osights arrived today and on first inspection they seem good, even great for the money TBH.
The glass feels huge for the size of this thing and is very clear with no distortions around the edges and only the very slightest of slight blue tints, like unless you’re pointing it against a white wall you can’t tell kinda slight.

The adjustment dials aren’t the most tactile things I’ve ever felt and you need to pay attention or you’ll be wondering if you just did one or three clicks lol.
The dot is nice & sharp and both ends of the brightness scale are good with the brightest setting being super bright, you can also choose between dot only or dot & ring, or ring only.

I think I’m going to throw this one on the 365 to replace the Romeo X compact & will keep the other one for a different gun yet to be ordered, and the Romeo can go back in it’s box for now.

If it were the same price as the sig I’d say this is a better optic (well so far without range testing it anyway lol), but at almost a third of the price (250 v’s 700) and also being enclosed I think this thing shits all over the sig. Now I’m really hoping they bring out a full size model with RMR footprint.
